The wind was a steady 15 knots with an occasional gust to 25 so sailing was cancelled yesterday afternoon – although the sailors are disabled they would take out the small keel boats and sail hard if they were allowed to.
We had planned a sunset cruise departing at 6pm if the wind died down – this looked likely as the skies were blue with just a wee bit of cloud as shown in the image. Oh, so what if there was a good deal of cloud…

Things changed at 3 pm as we were hit by the leading edge of a cold front from the northand the winds picked up to 35 knots sustained.
Yikes – in a keel boat that’s a serious wind so the trip is cancelled. A good thing as at 4:30 the winds again increased, the skies let loose with torrential rain, hail and an intense lightning storm that shook the house and bumped off the power a few times.
Such is life – this morning the skies are again sunny and blue.
