This image of a little cricket is helping me determine the maximum viewable width of images – it happens to be 500 pixels, which is not very wide when compared to the the capabilities of computers.
It does the job though as it fits in nicely with the layout of my blog and it does seem to work for the image of the cricket.
500 pixels and a cricket. Big deal?
No.
Bigger is not always better – I don’t need to display an image that is 1600 pixels wide and I don’t think you’d want to encounter a cricket that was as large as your arm.
This little cricket spent a moment on Natalie’s finger, sitting motionless as I looked at it. Thank you cricket.

That’s actually a some flavour of grasshopper. A cricket looks much different than that.
